A caterer arranges the preparation, delivery and presentation of food for clients. If you’ve ever attended a bridal shower, fundraiser, rehearsal dinner or wedding reception that has beautifully prepared and presented food chances are that event was catered. Caterers provide management services in the organizing of group events at restaurants, hotels, convention centers and private homes. An established caterer needs working capital to pay for rental equipment, wages and other expenses and purchasing inventory in advance of business. Catering requires a strong work ethic, as well as patience and excellent communication skills. Supervisory skills can also be learned but are helpful for being a successful caterer.
