Finding party games for all the kids to play can be a challenge. We have listed 20 party games alongside the rules on how to play them. These games can be played by all the gender groups in kids which we are sure they would love. Some of these classics are dated back to the 1900’s . Additionally, we have also included some new games that are trending at kids parties. Browse through and let the games begin!

1. Musical Chairs

  •  The chairs are set up in two rows back to back (one chair less than the number of kids).
  • The music is turned on, and the kids walk around the chairs.
  • When the music stops the kids race to sit on the available chairs.
  • The kid who is left standing is taken out of the game.
  • The kids all stand again and a chair is removed.
  • The music begins and the kids walk around the chairs again.
  • This procedure is continued until only one person remains.
  • The kid who remains until the last is the winner.

2. Pin The Tail On The Donkey

  • Place blue tack on the end of the donkey tail that joins the donkey body.
  • Hang a picture of donkey on a wall that is roughly eye level to your party guests.
  • Have the children line up in single file and blindfold the first child in the queue.
  • Give them the donkey tail and gently spin them around three times.
  • Point the blindfolded child towards the donkey and ask him to place the tail on the donkey.
  • Mark the spot where he places the tail with his name.
  • Once every child has had a turn, the child with the donkey tail closest to the correct position wins.

3. Pass The Parcel

Prepare your parcel. Place a gift at the centre of the parcel.

  • Begin the game.
  • Sit in a circle.
  • Select the music-keeper.
  • Stop the music.
  • Restart after each layer is unwrapped.
  • Continue playing until the last layer is unwrapped.

4. Egg Toss / Egg Race

Egg Toss

Unless you are very brave, hard boil the eggs beforehand ( Although I must admit, it’s much funnier if your eggs aren’t boiled – especially for tweens and teens ), you’ll need one egg per pair.

  • Pair up the kids and have them toss an egg back and forth to each other.
  • Each time the  both the kids are successful in catching, they must take a step backwards and continue.
  • The team that can catch their egg with the furthest distance between them, wins!

Egg Race

This is one of the classic party game for kids.

  • Line up the kids, each with an egg balanced on a tablespoon.
  • On ‘go’ kids race towards the predetermined finish line.
  • If they drop the eggs, they must stop and put it back on their spoon before proceeding further
  • Or, if you’re really want it tough, send them back to the start line each time the egg drops!

5. Sack Race

  • Prepare a hessian/burlap sack or a large pillowcase for each player
  • Tip : You can also play in relay teams to minimise the number of sacks you need
  • guests must stand with their feet inside the sack and on ‘go’ race towards the finish line (or to their teammate if you’re playing relay style).
  • The first player to cross the finish line or first team to have all members jump is the winner.

6. Treasure Hunt

Treasure hunts can be super simple to set up or much more involved. To keep it super simple, hide wrapped sweets/lollies around the play space for guests to hunt, each guest keeps what they find. For a treasure hunt that’s a little more involved hide a series of tokens around the play space for guests to find – the child who finds the most wins a prize. The tokens can be anything – small coloured gemstones, printed tokens like the ones we used here for a goblin hunt, painted rocks, etc.

Finally, at the much more involved end of the scale is a treasure hunt with a series of pre-written clues that guests must read and solve (as a group) in a trail around the party space to find a hidden treasure.

7. Wheelbarrow Races

Played in pairs, wheelbarrow races are tons of fun.

  • The first person is the wheelbarrow
  • They start with their hands on the ground and their legs are held by the second person (the driver) in the pair.
  • The wheelbarrow ‘walks’ their hands across the ground while the driver follows behind, holding their legs and steering the wheelbarrow.
  • First team to cross the finish line are the winners.

8. Duck, Duck, Goose

A total classic, right? Totally simple, too.

  • Have your party goers sit in a circle with their legs crossed.
  • Select one be the “goose.”
  • The goose stands up and walks around the circle of children, tapping (gently!) each of the other players on their head.
  • Each time the “goose” taps a head, he or she says “duck.”
  • When they decide on the person they want to chase them, they tap that person’s head saying “goose” and then start off running.
  • If they can make it all the way around the circle, back to the seat of the person that just hopped up and sit down, then they are no longer the “goose.”
  • The person who failed to catch them becomes the new goose.
  • If they are caught, they sit in the centre of the circle and miss being selected for further turns.

9. Relay Race

Running and balloons is always a good idea when it comes to classic party games for kids.

  • Divide your guests into relay teams of four players
  • Two on each side of the play space.
  • Place an inflated balloon between their knees
  • Get them to jump across the play space.

10. Pinata

Tip : You’ll need to purchase or make a piñata to match your party theme and fill it with treats at least a day before.

  • Hang the piñata so that it is hanging at about head height.
  • Have party goers stand in a line a few metres away.
  • Blindfold the kids
  • Gently spin them around 3 times before trying to hit the piñata with a wooden stick until it breaks open. Below are more party games for kids.

11. Limbo

  • Two players hold either end of a broomstick.
  • The kids take turns going under the stick without touching it.
  • The stick is lowered after all of the children have filed under it.
  • Anyone who falls, touches the ground with their hands or touches the stick is out.

12. Back Draw

Players try to guess the word that their teammate is drawing on a piece of paper on their back.

13. Traffic Light

Kids race to the finish line, but can only run when the ‘traffic guard’ says so.

14. Who Am I

Players must guess the identity of the name written on a card they cannot see.

15. Hot Potato

  • Kids pass a ball to each other.
  • One designated player sits eyes closed and then yells ‘hot potato’ at any random time.
  • Whoever is stuck with the ball loses.

16. Freeze Dance

Children dance when the music is on, but when it is turned off they must immediately freeze. Anyone caught still dancing gets out.

17. Charades

Players try to get their teammates to guess a movie, TV show, or person they are acting out – all without talking or making a sound.

18. Pass the orange

Players attempt to pass an orange to the next person without using their hands.

19. Kids eat cake

One of the funniest kids party games, Kids race to eat a piece of cake using only their mouth with their hands behind their back.

20. Guess the Picture

One person draws a picture and the others try to guess what it is.
