Since 2003, all marriage celebrants have received extensive training before being appointed. All Marriage Celebrants are expected to do five hours of On-going Professional Development (OPD) each year, therefore it is safe to assume that the majority of Celebrants, whether newly appointed or with many years of experience, are highly trained and certified.
Civil Marriage Celebrants are experienced individuals who will make your special day one to remember. They will preside at formal, informal, or themed wedding ceremonies and, in most situations, are prepared to add some religious content, such as a family member reading a prayer. Civil wedding celebrants will collaborate with clerics. For example, if a couple want to have their marriage blessed by a Minister of Religion from their local church, the celebrant will include this in the ceremony as long as the Minister is happy.
